At Ventura Pranas, we take this proverb all too seriously. For the first time in our 14 years of experience, we introduced a Cricket Tournament. But first some history on how it came about.
I recently lost my Brother-in-law, K Arunkumar. He was an exceptional cricketeer but also very understated. It was not until his passing that I realized how much his old team mates adored him and extolled him for his brilliant mind in planning strategy at their games. Arun was part of the Winning Ranji trophy Tamil Nadu team in the year 1987-88. This was only the second time that TN had won the Ranji trophy.
This cricket tournament at Ventura Pranas was held in his memory and I am thrilled to state that it is here to stay. The tournament had far-reaching benefits. Our teams spanned the offices in Chennai and Trichy. The players practiced for weeks in the lead-up to the tournament day. This provided for great bonding opportunities and probably the first step (in a long time) towards fitness for some of the players.
The Victors who emerged that day were from our Trichy office. A young energetic team that never takes any competition lightly. This tournament ticked a few boxes for me- it was a great team-building exercise at the firm and it also offered me a panacea that we as a group thought about Arun that day and did it with a game that brought him so much joy.
