If you are an animal lover or have had a pet, you will relate to this post.
November 2024 marked a bittersweet month in my life.
It was the month Ventura Pranas my Entrepreneurial Baby turned 13 years old, it was also the month that we lost our dear pet dog Percy who was also close to the same age.
Percy entered our life about the time Ventura Pranas was founded. She has seen the toils of a start-up with me working and travelling a lot. Yet she seemed at peace all the time. She had no complaints when I left home on these travels and just expressed utter jubilance when I returned. A little different from the children at home, then much younger!
She was 12 years old, and I really cannot recall a single day that Percy manifested any aggression, she made her presence felt in the most endearing way. She was a great guard dog and yet the gentlest pet at the same time. She grew up around other senior and junior pets who each wanted to establish dominance in the house. She let each one dominate and went about her business with the gentle power of Quietude. She entrenched herself firmly in our lives in her own delicate way.
I think the best part of having a pet at home is teaching children empathy. Although my children were in the US at the time she passed on, they were with me managing her final days of treatment and care; and with us virtually when she breathed her last.
In her last moments, Percy was surrounded by 14 humans to bid her farewell. If a pet can garner so much love and appreciation for the joys she showered upon us through her life, it should be easy for a human to draw abundant goodwill unto himself. All it takes is authenticity and unconditional love.
I would like to end this short note on beloved Percy with a video compiled by someone who understood the depth of the love and pain of the loss.
